Opening Day is finally upon us, I can almost smell the hot dogs and overpriced beer. After the lockout and canceled Spring Training games casting doubts we would even see April baseball, fans are all the more eager to get back into their seats on April 7th for Opening Day.

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox
Favored to win: New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are predicted to win their opening day matchup against the Boston Red Sox. A chance for a little opening day redemption, after losing to the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card game last season. Gerrit Cole, who led the rotation with 16 wins last season, will be pitching for the Yankees, and with their roster of powerhouse hitters like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, they should have the offense pretty well taken care of. And, just like in last season’s Wild Card game, Cole will be facing Nathan Eovaldi, so this game should make for an exciting opener for both teams.
Cleveland Guardians vs Kansas City Royals
Favored to win: Cleveland Guardians
The freshly named Cleveland Guardians are projected to win against the Kansas City Royals, in Kansas City. It will be Shane Bieber against veteran pitcher Zack Greinke. Bieber has always been a strong pitcher, but we will have to see if the shoulder he injured last season is still causing any trouble. Although Cleveland’s main weakness will probably continue to be their outfield, the Royals, who have not made a playoff appearance since their 2015 World Series win, are counting on number one prospect Bobby Witt to be the change they need this season.
Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Angels
Favored to win: Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Angels are projected to win against the Houston Astros, which comes as no surprise considering their absolutely stacked roster. Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and the addition of Noah Syndergaard this season, should make for a powerhouse of a team. Ohtani will be starting the home opener, which will definitely give the Angels a great turnout and an electric crowd.
Seattle Mariners vs Minnesota Twins
Favored to Win: Both
This matchup should be interesting, since both teams have the same odds, according to Caesar’s Sportsbook, it really is anybody’s game. Last season, the Seattle Mariners finished second in the AL West, while the Minnesota Twins finished last in Central. But, Minnesota made some big moves this offseason, including signing shortstop Carlos Correa and right-handed starter, Dylan Bundy. The Seattle Mariners shook up their roster a lot during the offseason as well, losing three starting pitchers, but gaining their new potential ace starter, Robbie Ray, and a strong second baseman, Adam Frazier. Maybe this will be the year they finally end their playoff drought.
