Thursday, April 7th, is Opening Day and baseball fans are beyond ready. After two Covid-ridden seasons, the winter lockout, and canceled Spring Training games, there is even more to celebrate this Opening Day.

New York Mets vs Washington Nationals
Favored to win: New York Mets
The New York Mets are favored to win their opening game at Nationals Park, on Thursday. The Nationals will be starting Patrick Corbin, while the Mets pitcher is still listed as TBD, although it is rumored to be former Nat, and Cy Young winning phenom, Max Scherzer; which would make for an exciting and heartbreaking start to the season for Washington fans. The Mets have some heavy hitters, like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, while the Nationals are still rebuilding after their post-World-Series-win blow up, but at least they still have Juan Soto.
Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs
Favored to win: Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee is predicted to beat the Cubs in Chicago, with Corbin Burnes taking on Kyle Hendricks. The Brewers finished first in the NL Central in 2021, and Burnes had the lowest ERA in the league. The Cubs finished fourth in the division last year and are still in the process of rebuilding.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs St. Louis Cardinals
Favored to win: St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals are favored to win at home over the Pittsburgh Pirates, which would be an exciting homecoming for Albert Pujols, who is returning to the Cardinals after a full decade in LA. The tops hitters for Pittsburgh, Ke’Bryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds, are solid all-around hitters, but losing Adam Frazier to Seattle will surely affect the team’s numbers this season. For the Cardinals, adding Pujols to a lineup of Paul Goldschmidt, Tyler O’Neill, and Nolan Arenado will just be icing on the cake.
Cincinnati Reds vs Atlanta Braves
Favored to Win: Atlanta Braves
The reigning World Series champs are expected to beat the Reds at home on Opening Day and starting for them will be one of their stars, Max Fried. Hopefully they will be able to maintain some of that World Series winning mojo, despite trading fan favorite Freddie Freeman. Cincinnati will definitely have their work cut out for them during this opening series, hopefully Joey Votto will bring some of his 40+ home run energy this time.
San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks
Favored to Win: San Diego Padres
The Padres are projected to beat the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Opening Day, even with Fernando Tatis Jr. out with an injury. Starting for San Diego will be Yu Darvish, and Madison Bumgardner for Arizona, both good, reliable pitchers, but the Diamondbacks will have to improve their weak offense if they want a chance at beating the Padres.
