Our in-house baseball expert Billy J breaks down his best bets for tonight action!
Talk about two teams going in two different directions. Just two weeks ago, the Angels were flying high chasing Houston for the AL West crown, with the potential of passing their nemesis over the summer. After yesterday’s walk-off loss to the Phillies, that is now 11 straight losses for the Halos. Even more well documented is the biggest slump of superstar Mike Trout’s career as he is 0 for his last 23. At some point Trout will become Trout again, but here is the good news… Trout loves to hit at the Big A.

The Angels now welcome in the Red Sox for a 4-game series and are desperately trying to snap their losing streak. The two teams originally met for a series in early May where the Angels actually took 2 out of 3 in Fenway. Things have changed quite a bit since then. For starters, the Red Sox are fresh off a weekend sweep of the Oakland A’s and have moved to .500 after starting the season 11-20. Strangely enough, when the two teams met on May 4th, the two starters that pitched that game are exactly the same. It will be the rematch between Michael Wacha and Noah Syndergaard.
During the May 4th matchup, Wacha got the best of Syndergaard. Wacha went 5.2 innings with a couple strikeouts and got the win that day as the Red Sox blanked the Angels 4-0. This time around though Wacha will be on the road where his ERA has been night and day. On the road Wacha sports a 4.12 ERA compared to his paper thin 0.86 ERA at home. And just like his teammate Trout, Syndergaard does a lot better at home where his ERA is 1.48 and his strikeout-to-walk ratio is 3.8 compared to his road ERA of 7.88 and strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.0
With the public most likely backing the red-hot Red Sox against a slumping Angels team in the midst of an 11-game losing streak, across the board the Angels are the opening favorites and most likely as we get closer and closer to first pitch you might see this line get to even money. The Angels will rely on Syndergaard and Trout to continue their home success and it will be an all hands on deck type of game with the bullpen to finish this one out and break the streak.
The Pick: Monitor the line closer to the 9:38 PM EST first pitch to get best value. Angels -120 currently on DraftKings
