Previewing the NBA Finals Game 1

Mike Dodge @Dodgemoney

The long drawn out wait of four days between the Conference Finals conclusion and the NBA Championship Series is finally here.  The Boston Celtics are back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2008, while the Golden State Warriors are making their sixth appearance in the last eight years.  The NBA fan base is in for an absolute thriller of a series.  Per MGM, the Warriors are a -160 favorite to win the series, while the underdog Celtics are a +130.  The relatively tight series odds is more than justified as both teams have been magnificent.  The Warriors have a Hall of Fame coach and a list of players worthy of the recognition coupled with years of experience, while the Celtics have battle tested young and hungry stars looking to make a name for themselves.

Earlier this week, I made the prediction that the Boston Celtics would take the series and be named the 2022 NBA Champions, with Jaylen Brown being named Finals MVP.  While I do stand by the prediction, the winner of Game 1 will be the Warriors.  The Warriors have had more days off to prepare and to rest.  To go along with that, the experience of being on the big stage will go a long way for the Warriors.  Furthermore, home court advantage has seemingly benefited the Warriors more than any team in the playoffs! Thus far, they have amassed a 9-0 record playing at Chase Arena.  Celtic’s coach Ime Udoka has proven to be able to make adjustments as the series is played out and his players trust him.  Look for the Celtics to get back on track following Game 1.
