Our Basketball Expert Mike Dodge (@Dodgemoney) breaks down his predictions for Game 2
That did not take long. As the old saying goes, a series does not start until the home team loses. Well, after one game we have a series on our hands and it looks like it’s going to be an absolute dog fight. The bright lights and the big stage did nothing to deter the Boston Celtics. They fought off the heavy weight blows delivered by Steph Curry early and often, gathered themselves, never let the game get out of reach, and were able to seal a Game 1 victory at the Chase Center. Something no other team has done in these playoffs.
While the Celtics look to continue their resiliency and carry their momentum into Game 2, the Warriors will look to take a meaningful step towards regaining the series advantage. If there was ever a must win Game 2 in a seven game series this is it. The Warriors can not afford to lose Game 2 at home, and then expect to win four of the next five games, with at least three of those games being played at the Boston Garden.
Steph Curry had a tremendous first game and there is little doubt that he will come ready to play and perform. Though, he can not do it alone. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green need to provide more in order for the Warriors to walk away victorious and I expect them to do just that. However, it won’t matter what any Warriors player does offensively if the Golden State Warriors do not step up defensively. And I do expect a more defensive minded game from the Golden State Warriors. When the Celtics found themselves down at points in Game 1 it was not because the Warriors were playing sound defense, but more so because the Celtics were just missing shots or being careless with the basketball. The Warriors need to make the Celtics work much hard on the offensive end of the floor and simply can not give them nearly as many open looks, especially from the three point line. The Celtics have been lights out from down town throughout this entire playoffs and that is not going to change by letting them have wide open attempts.
