After a strong Week 1, our college football expert Chrissy Jones (+180) returns with even more picks!
Recap
A nice winning week to start the year with a 3 possession +195 victory with Arizona ML. It could have been 4-1 if Utah did not throw a pick in the end zone at the end of the game. Either way, we will take it. One thing I will say…I was wrong about Georgia. They are not rebuilding and are reloading. Also, Bo Nix is still Bo Nix.
Let’s get to the Week 2 pick
Baylor @ BYU OVER 53.5 (-110)
This game is guaranteed to be a shootout. BYU’s offense looked strong last week putting up over 50 against USF with RS-JR QB Jaren Hall. Baylor did not have much of a test in Week 1 as they put up 69 (nice) against Albany. Sophomore Blake Shapen looks to have taken a step forward as he went 17-20 to start the season. Honestly, this OU should be set at 60 as both offenses are willing and able to score.
Iowa State +4 @ Iowa (-115)
Did anyone watch the Iowa game last week? For your own sanity, I hope not. As a reminder, Iowa put up only 3 offensive points on the way to a 7-3 victory over South Dakota State. You read the correctly. Iowa got 2 safeties to get the win. To keep this short and sweet….give me 4 points in a rivalry game when the other team could not even score 4 offensive points against a FCS foe last week.
Georgia Southern +23.5 @ Nebraska (-115)
Do you want to bet on Scott Frost? Neither do I. After giving away the game to Northwestern in Ireland in W0, Nebraska followed up their performance by struggling against North Dakota. A couple of late touchdowns increased the margin of victory to 21, but the game was closer than it appears. Buffalo transfer QB Kyle Vantrease is leading the Georgia Southern offense and showed well in Week 1. This is Vantrease’s 6th year of college football, so he will not be intimidated by Nebraska. I see Georgia Southern covering and keeping the game close. Buy a half a point to make it +24 if it is available, but I think Georgia Southern covers either way.
Arizona +11 vs Mississippi State (-115)
Arizona treated us nicely last week so we are going back to the well. De Laura got off to a hot start against San Diego State with 299 yards through the air with 4 scores. The key to the game will be to slow down the Mississippi State passing attack. With Leach’s aerial attack, Will Rogers threw for 450 yards last week against Memphis. If Arizona can do that, I like their changes to cover 11 at home. This game does not start until 11PM EST and we have all seen what can happen with Pac-12 after dark.
Colorado +17.5 @ Air Force (-110)
I will not sugarcoat it…Colorado is not a good team. I do not think they are a bowl team. I do think they have some Power 5 talent and can hang in this game. The in-state matchup will add some additional motivation for Colorado after their sound defeat last week against TCU. I see this as a low scoring game that bodes well for taking the points at +17.5.
