SI Sportsbook Possibly Coming To Michigan

TwinSpires announced its departure from Michigan’s online sports betting scene earlier this year, yet there hasn’t been any word as to which sportsbook was to take its place. That was until this week when Sports Illustrated Sportsbook (SI Sportsbook) leaked some information via their website.

The online sports betting website, https://www.sisportsbook.com/, has an Island Resort & Casino logo near the top of its webpage and has Michigan as an option for their state selector.

The Michigan page on Sports Illustrated’s website was first discovered sometime last week. It seems it was intentional because as of September 2nd, SI Sportsbook still has the Island Resort & Casino logo on its website.

When trying to sign up for an account on the Michigan SI Sportsbook website, the site returns an error stating, “SI_sportsbook-MI does not provide services in your location at this time.” While unable to sign up for an account yet, it seems as though SI Sportsbook will be taking TwinSpires place in the Great Lake State.

TwinSpires announced they would be shutting down their online sportsbook and casino back in February of this year. The brand plans to continue its horse racing wagering across the US. Six months after the initial announcement, the company announced the last day to place wagers on the site is September 6th, 2022.

Island Resort & Casino reported that it didn’t have a launch date for a new operator set yet. The casino did mention they would announce the new sportsbook partner in September. No official announcement has been released as of September 2nd.

The brand has also yet to announce an online casino partner. Considering SI Sportsbook doesn’t have an online casino function, Island Resort & Casino would have to partner with another online casino operator. Other casinos in the state have taken this route, like Odawa Casinos, which utilizes Fox Bet for its online sportsbook, and Stars Casino for its online casino.

What is SI Sportsbook?

Sports Illustrated magazine was created in August of 1954 and remains one of the most popular magazines in the sports industry. Being on the cover of a SI magazine is highly coveted among professional athletes. In June 2021, Sports Illustrated’s parent company Authentic Brands Group partnered with 888 Holdings to create a top-of-the-line Sports Illustrated-themed sportsbook. Colorado was the first state to launch the new SI Sportsbook app in September 2021. Virginia followed suit in May of this year.

To wager on the SI Sportsbook website, you must be 21 years of age or older and physically present in one of the states where the brand operates. If the rumors are true, and SI Sportsbook is actually coming to Michigan, then we should see a variety of promotions available when signing up. Currently, SI Sportsbook in Virginia and Colorado offers different bonuses for new players. Players in Michigan can expect one of the two promotions when SI Sportsbook goes live.

  • Colorado offers new players $60 in free bets for your first $10 wagered. This promotion is especially unique since you receive $60 in free bets if your first bet wins or loses. The guaranteed welcome bonus is different than most welcome bonuses offered by existing sportsbooks in the state.
  • Virginia offers a slightly different welcome bonus of $100 when your first bet of at least $20 wins. The $100 must be played-through once before withdrawing.

SI Sportsbooks also keeps it interesting for regular users by running betting promotions throughout the year.
