Online Sportsbooks in West Virginia
Where to Bet
Online Sports Betting History
West Virginia delegate Shawn Fluharty first introduced a bill in March of 2017, to legalize sports betting and declare the federal PASPA amendment illegal. After several drafts, the bill was passed into law in January of 2018, just ahead of the Supreme Court’s striking down of PASPA in May of that same year.
A little over three months later, on August 30th, the first legal sports bets in West Virginia were placed at the Hollywood Casino at Charlestown Races, making it the fifth state in the nation to legalize sports betting.
By the end of 2018, all five of WV’s retail casinos and racetracks offered a new sportsbook, with online sports betting following closely behind in 2019. The next new leap is expected to be the launch of online casino gambling, as this state of gaming enthusiasts aggressively embraces the new frontier of legal sports betting.
